Decided to check out a Japanese restaurant in Japantown, San Jose. It has been quite a long time since I have eaten in Japantown. We had tickets to the WAR concert at the San Jose Civic center so we decided to get some dinner right before the concert.
We initially wanted to eat at Gombei’s , but it was CASH Only and I did not have enough cash on me so down the street was a place called Kaita. It is a bit small, but there are plenty of tables. It was quiet not overly noisy. They have a variety of Main Courses, Combo plates Sushi and Sashimi. We ordered:
- Goyza – Appetizer – Comes with 6
- Nigiri Roll Combo plate- They let me substitute the California Roll with Spicy Tuna for $1
- Sushi Sashimi Combo
- Large Asahi Beer
The dishes came with soup and salad.
I really liked the Miso soup very much, Better than most Japanese restaurants. The salad was ok, I have had better and fresher. The sushi and sashimi were excellent and very fresh! The sushi had the right amount of rice. Some places try to make the sushi with to much rice, but they did it perfect….
The service was very good, they had low sodium soy sauce and we asked for Hot sauce and they brought a bit of sriracha. I like eating the Gyoza with hot sauce! The staff was nice and attentive.
A place definately worth visiting for Sushi and Sashimi that is more traditional.

Today we went to dinner with my Son and his family and my Brother-in-law and his family in Downtown Sacramento. My Son suggested a place called Buckhorn Grill on L street (between 18th&19th Streeet) The place has a nice casual atmosphere and is very good for families. They have variety of BBQ dishes, Hamburgers and Sandwiches.
When you walk in, you order at the front counter. They give you a number for your table and later bring you the food.
One of my son’s (Josh) and I shared the Feasr for two. We ordered Ribs and Tri-Tip for the meats with Mac & Cheese and Sweet potato fries as the sides . The Tri- Tip was med but was a bit more red then I was hoping. Next time I will have them cook slightly longer. The ribs were tender. The mac&cheese was very good as were the sweet potato fries. The dinner alsoo came with 3 muffins. We both topped it off the the in-house brew – Buckhorn Ale. Others in the party ordered hamburgers . They said the meat was think and juicy. Martha ordered a side of vegtables and they came grilled. A nice touch.

Training during the holidays is never easy. After several days off, I was able to get back in the groove. I started with a lot of stretching. My lower back and legs were a bit stiff due to slacking off most of the prior day, December 26th, watching several episodes of The Crown on Netflix.
I started with several stretches and warm-up activities mostly to loosen my hamstrings and glutes. I picked a workout from the P90x series: Core Synergistics. I did the same workout last week. This exercise is good for building your core, and works multiple areas at once. I really like the incorporation of dumbbells into some of the exercises. I followed this with a 1 mile walk on the treadmill. Then Later that day, I did a 3.6 mile walk which included a stop at a nearby Starbucks 😬
